  17. <p>    In 1946, in David Lean's classic film of Dickens' Great
  18. Expectations, Jean Simmons played the young Estella to Martita
  19. Hunt's spurned Miss Havisham, the brooding harridan in a
  20. tattered wedding dress who teaches her ward to hate men. This
  21. July, in a startling reversal of roles, Simmons, 60, will play
  22. the spinster in a Disney Channel mini-series. "Oh, yes," says
  23. Simmons, "it was kind of weird. But when they started putting
  24. the makeup on, and the wig and the dress, you get into it."
  25. Simmons, who once suffered from agoraphobia, says she can
  26. identify a little with the reclusive Havisham. But that's as far
  27. as it goes.
